Define the lift before asking for a crane

A crane cannot be selected from load weight alone. Suppliers need verified load information, lift radius, height, pick and place points, site levels, access and ground conditions. The working radius often has more influence on capacity than the headline tonnes painted on the machine. Provide drawings and dimensions, identify underground services and overhead restrictions, and explain whether the lift crosses roads, buildings or operating areas. Clarify who is responsible for lift engineering, rigging, traffic control, permits and exclusion zones. Large mobile and crawler cranes can require counterweight movements, assembly space and engineered working platforms. Ask about wind limits, standby, cancellation, travel and minimum hours. Use directory profiles to find possible suppliers, then have competent parties complete the lift study and verify equipment, people, documentation and insurance before engagement.
