A useful plant-hire decision connects the work, site, machine, supplier support and commercial terms. Use this guide to organise the first conversation and make competing offers easier to compare.
Describe the outcome first
Give suppliers a measurable description of the work before naming a machine. Include quantity, material, load, distance, height, finish and programme. This lets an experienced supplier test whether the requested equipment is genuinely suitable.
Map the working envelope
Measure the route from delivery point to workface. Gates, turning circles, overhead services, gradients, floor or ground capacity, noise windows and public interfaces can change the machine class, attachment and delivery plan.
Compare an equivalent scope
Align transport, minimum hours, attachments, operators, fuel, cleaning, standby, overtime and damage terms. A lower hourly rate can be a more expensive package when the inclusions and production assumptions differ.
Confirm the support behind the machine
Ask where the proposed unit is located, who services it, what happens after a breakdown and whether replacement equipment is realistic. Regional distance and high utilisation make these questions especially important.
